Synopsis:

This short stop-motion film tells a story of divided love through silhouetted figures. The story starts off in a black & white world where a kid meets his true love. Suddenly the two are pulled away from each other. The boy must then embark on a lifelong search for his lost love.

Inspiration

Inspiration for this short animation stems from the 2010 puzzle platform video game Limbo by studio Playdead. I was fascinated by the idea of faceless silhouetted characters and explored other ways to show expression without verbiage or facial expressions. This was made difficult with the limitations and choppiness of the stop-motion medium but nonetheless found a way to express body language.

Kinetic Typography

The introduction of this project was inspired by Apples’s short animation. The aim was clean black and white line work to match the simplicity of the short film.

Synopsis

This short stop-motion film tells a story of divided love through silhouetted figures. The story starts off in a black & white world where a kid meets his true love. Suddenly the two are pulled away from each other forcing the colors to retreat to a depressive black. As the beloved couple reconnects their world becomes saturated with wondrous colors. The entirety of the film will revolve around the searching of one another. The actual change will be the beloved couple growing into adulthood.

Our project status is still in the pre-production stage. We are on the very first steps in creating the actual world that the characters explore. This involves cutting out the worldly objects (i.e. buildings, trees, people, etc.), and combining them to form our vision of the world. The pictures presented are simply test shots that will give a general idea of how our world will look. We’ve learned that it is incredibly difficult to pay attention to details and maintaining steady pace for movement. Also, it is extremely time consuming.
